Radiology & Imaging (short for Medical Imaging) is a medical specialty that uses imaging technologies to diagnose and sometimes treat diseases within the body.
Major types of medical imaging include:
- X-rays – good for bones and chest/lung images
- CT (Computed Tomography) scans – cross-sectional body images using X-rays
- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) – uses magnets and radio waves, great for soft tissues like the brain, spinal cord, and muscles
- Ultrasound – sound waves to view organs, blood flow, and in pregnancy
- PET scans (Positron Emission Tomography) – shows how tissues and organs are functioning
- Mammography – specialized X-ray for breast tissue
